GDC-2023-HEATLYSIS

HEATLYSIS

Project funded by MICIU/AEI- PID2023-148554OB-I00 and led by Verónica Salgueiriño (jointly with Begoña Puértolas Lacambra from TNT group at CINBIO).

The project HEATLYSIS

The focus of the project is the catalyst design for magnetically-driven transformations including the gas phase CO2-ODH and the catalytic conversion of polls to boost propulsion of nano/microrobots.

Objectives

  1. The synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles supported on non-inert and on inert carriers as efficient catalysts for the CO2-ODH of ethane and for the transformation of polyols, respectively, taking advantage of the available active sites at the surface of the catalysts and of the localized heat generated from the magnetic components (Leaders: Begoña Puértolas and Verónica Salgueiriño).
  2. The evaluation of the catalytic performance in the CO2-ODH using the localized heat generated from the magnetic nanoparticles, as an attractive alternative to the currently used highly‑capital‑, energy‑, and carbon‑intensive industrial technologies for the manufacture of ethylene, as a key platform molecule for the chemical industry

    (Leader: Begoña Puértolas)

  3. The evaluation of the catalytic performance associated to the self-propulsion of nano/microrobots based on the gradient of chemical compounds generated by the iron oxide-catalyzed transformation of polyols including glycerol and energy-rich biomolecules such as glucose, fructose, and ATP, and aided by an optimal temperature control using the localized heat generated using magnetic hyperthermia, given its key role in the bioengineering sector (Leader: Verónica Salgueiriño).
